The Ethiopian Canadian Muslim Community Association, otherwise known as ECMCA, was established in 1998 as a non-profit organization with a sole purpose of bringing together Ethiopian Muslims who reside in the Greater Toronto Area and its Vicinity to work together for the betterment of our community.

As the number of Ethiopian Muslims grow, the need for viable Community Centre with a vision becomes vital. Hence, ECMCA has been taking some initiatives that would help foster and promote a positive understanding among the various ethnic groups by focusing on common grounds in order to realize the potential of becoming united and bound by the spirit of Islamic brotherhood. The organization is run by nine Board members and a committee of 6 sisters who come from different ethnic of Ethiopian backgrounds working very closely to protect our community and particularly our youth from different distractive behaviours.

ECMCA’S MAIN OBJECTIVES:

* ECMCA will always attempt to reach out Ethiopian Muslims in the Greater Toronto Area and its vicinity to become active members of the community

* ECMCA pledges to work with other sisterly organizations that have  similar objectives

* ECMCA will participate in any endeavors that attempts to help our compatriots in Ethiopia to overcome any natural or man-made calamities that befalls the country

* Teaching Islamic Education to our children and the community at large

* To create a conducive environment whereby all Ethiopian Muslims meet to understand each other.

* Providing counseling to our community .

* To assist our community in finding employment and training to become active participants in the society.

* Organizing youth programs such as sports and other recreational activities.
Since we are bound to have shortcomings, we welcome any suggestions or comments that would help us improve our programs

As the Prophet (P.B.U.) said “A person who guides others to a righteous deeds, will receive an equal reward with the one who actually performed the deed”
