Marriage is the
basis of family life in Islam. It is a solemn and yet a
simple contract between a man and a woman. Marriage is
generally arranged by parents, but with the consent of
the couple, as required by Islamic law (Shari ‘ah).
Marriage is performed in a simple ceremony in the
presence of relatives, friends and neighbors.
Islam does not
allow the free mixing of men and women; nor does it
allow sex pre marital relationships. No discrimination
is made on the basis of sex. Husband and wife are equal
partners of the family and play their part in their
respective roles.
As our Muslim
brothers and sisters demand to perform and organize
Islamic marriage, Sheikh Mohamed Awal, president of the
Ethiopian Canadian Muslim Community Association As
requested for authorization to solemnize marriage in
province of Ontario, the Registrar General Office has
given full authority to Sheikh Mohamed Awal
Starting June
2001, Ethiopian Canadian Muslim Community maintains
right to issue a marriage certificate to any
Muslim individual in Ontario.
Procedures to perform
marriage:

you should pick up a marriage certificate from City
Hall

Call our centre to make an appointment

You should be accompanied by two witnesses and a
guardian (Wali)

Dowry (Mahar) that is agreed upon by both parties
must be reached out
